A word that’s been circling around for quite a while now is mindfulness. I’m not impartial to this concept but what I just can’t get my head around is why being mindful has just come about in the past few years. Shouldn’t we be mindful already? It doesn’t take much to appreciate your surroundings and I am a total advocate for spending time with friends. Just being a little bit more aware of what you’re doing can change your life (even if it’s just a little bit) – I say this because recently I’ve been trying to be more mindful and it has definitely made me more positive.
I totally have negativity days but I try now not to be too hard on myself; I’m doing great as I am and I don’t need to be as frustrated with myself as I am. I try and tell myself something good that’s happened everyday – focusing at the positives over the negatives. I also think that mindfulness has become a antidote to stress, but I should look to being mindful as more of a way of life than just a 10 minute meditation every day.
I’ve decided to put together my tips on how you can be more mindful everyday (or just happiness tips):
Concentrate and breathe. Taking deep breathes in and out can actually be quite calming and oddly improves my mood (I wasn’t really expecting this to work). Concentrate on what needs to be done and remember you can do fun things after!
Don’t eat food alone. This is an odd one but eating food with other people can definitely help you appreciate what you are eating and who you’re with. Because bonding over food sounds fun right?
When you look in the mirror say something good about yourself. Too many times we just see what’s wrong with our body and we shouldn’t! Something that might be helpful is looking in the mirror and saying that ‘today is going to be a good day’ because we all need a pep talk sometimes. Don’t take yourself as seriously!
Take a walk outside and appreciate where you live. Why not be a tourist in your own town for a day? Just take some time to appreciate your surroundings and the place you live in. Something I really want to do is have a day just going around and visiting museums in my local area then going for lunch in a cute hidden cafe – now doesn’t that sound like a good day out!
Tell someone how much they mean to you. Trust me it’ll make their day and it’ll make you feel happier as well!
Don’t check your phone! I know this is a hard one but when you need to get things done get rid of all technology (unless you need it) and just focus on the task in hand.
