It probably won’t be unfamiliar to you that I’m a bit of a book worm (bit being an understatement) but I love reading non-fiction books as well. Learning about something new, an autobiography or getting fashion advice that is in a more formal medium than a blog. I’ve recently acquired a few new lifestyle books curated by two total girl bosses and the verdict? I love them both.
I’ve yet to finish Bloom yet as I’m dipping in and out of it whilst reading my other books but I’m pleased to tell you it’s everything I hoped and more. Estee Lalonde (I still have to stop myself from writing Essie Button) is one of my favourite Youtubers, her videos are so refreshing and I always try to watch them the minute the pop up in my subscriptions. Not to mention her and Aslan are a pretty adorable couple.
It’s the perfect coffee table book that isn’t the typical lifestyle or beauty book, it’s encapsulates Estee’s personality and is honest and just incredibly real. There are parts I’ve read that make me think “cool, I’m not the only one that feels like this” and I think that is what makes the book so easy to read; it’s like talking to a friend about some deep issues, balanced out with the light hearted sections of fashion and food.
Yes, Estee might not have a multi-million business, no she might not have changed the world for the better but this book gives me a little motivation to get sh*t done. Her videos and book alike inspire me to be a better person, stop stressing out and build myself up rather than push myself down with derogatory comments. Too many of us push ourselves down all too often but Estee is one of those people that you can watch her videos and instantly you feel better. Her book is a perfect reflection of her personality on screen. We need more people in the world like Estee.
Nasty Galaxy is described by Amazon as part scrapbook, part inspo-journey and 100% girl boss – I can totally agree. Filled with a myriad of photos, illustrations and short stories, Nasty Galaxy is a book about the philosophy of style but also the philosophy of life – in it’s best and worst moments there is definitely something to be gained from this book (and not just wanting to scour the shops for the pieces of clothes featured).
If you haven’t read Sophia Amoruso’s #Girlboss then I would highly recommend it before purchasing this one. It was what led me to putting this on my birthday wishlist as I wanted to know more, it wasn’t so much a book on how to be a girl boss but a sort of autobiography on how she herself came to run an online business and tips on how to make it in the world of business. With a little bit of life advice thrown in there as well, I would really recommend #Girlboss alongside Nasty Galaxy – I just didn’t decide to photograph it for this blog post.

I think they would make perfect Christmas presents as well if you didn’t know what to get someone but knew they were into fashion/beauty, especially Nasty Galaxy as it is just perfect to flick through and admire the photography.
