It’s Eleanor and I’m finally off school for summer, which basically translates to ‘more time blogging’. My mock exams went really well and I’m proud of the fact I didn’t let blogging get in the way – it’s a hobby that is a huge part of my life but it is still a hobby therefore I didn’t want it to take over my life. Luckily I was still able to post once a week and I’m back on track with two a week now; long may that continue (except for this week as I’m away in Barcelona)! Till year 11 takes over of course…
Ever since I was younger I’ve had the travelling bug, always in awe of the natural wonders in the world and the history and culture behind them. Admiring the places is one thing, but getting to them is another – many people are scared of travelling or get travel sick (I fall victim of some serious cases of car sickness) so seeing as I’m jet setting off for a little city break in Barcelona tomorrow (will I ever stop mentioning it… probably not) I thought a little travelling tips post would be a nice idea.
After being told multiple times that Barcelona is the pick pockets paradise a suitable bag is very needed, for the airport I’m bringing my new *heart eyes* Fjallraven Kanken. They’re not the cheapest bag but I’ve had my eye on one for the past few months and thanks for the 10% student discount off ASOS I managed to get £6 off, not the best discount but it was better than nothing (ps. I also bought a jumper in the order that was not intended but equally as gorgeous).
Travelling light if you can is one of the best things you can do whilst travelling, making a little capsule wardrobe for the days that you’re there and bringing minimal makeup; mini travel products make packing so much easier – I also try to keep my hand luggage to a minimum so walking round trying to find a hotel isn’t so strenuous (we once spent 3 hours looking for a hotel in Copenhagen and I regret taking so much #liferegretswithEleanor).
If you get travel sickness then I would totally recommend a distraction. I get car sickness from looking down a lot (eg. at my phone) but looking forward and talking really helps, on a plane I love to read especially if the journey is quite a long one – I’ve recently really got into reading Oh Comely magazine and WhSmith finally restocked with the new copy! It’s all about adventure and I cannot wait to read it on the plane (I may infact write a post all about it if that is something you would like, leave me a comment below if you would).
Wear comfortable clothes to travel in. There is nothing worse than wearing jeans (no matter how nice they might look) then realise that they’re just a tad too tight – comfort is essential. Also bear in mind what the weather will be like when you arrive at your destination. Seeing as Barcelona is meant to be quite hot I’ve opted for a denim skirt (no bonus points for originality here I’m afraid) a gorgeous striped top from Pull and Bear and a thin bomber for when I’m in England and it’s not quite sweltering.
Stay hydrated, there’s nothing worse than having both dry skin and being dehydrated whilst travelling so drinking plenty of water is definitely on the agenda. I’ve been drinking more lately and my skin has been reaping in the benefits massively. Linking this to the tip about travel sickness, drinking lots definitely helps me feel less queasy!
These are my best and most used tips for travelling but what are yours? Your tips might just help someone else as well!
