Due to the wonderful pun that graces your screens today, I thought it would be a fitting time to write a blog post about my gap year love child: @feltfancy.
Stemming from my mum’s previous love for making felt jewellery, of which she continues to do through running a felt making club at the primary school she works at, I thought it would be an ample opportunity to get creative on my gap year. Last summer I had goals of making more clothing, being more creative etc. which did not come into fruition. Yet, with the thought of going to Bristol in September hope was not lost – of course my creative tendencies would come to the forefront. Of course, this did not evolve either although I did partake in a lovely crochet earring workshop one evening last term. It doesn’t take a lot to be creative but one does have to be in the right mindset and as it has been exhibited from my recent post, I clearly was not.
Now I have free time (!) after work and at the weekends, I am feeling funky and creative and all things inspired to do something for me but also for you which is why I think Felt Fancy was the perfect project. I may have put it out into the world as a business and it is, it is also a gap year project that has come from the heart.
In terms of what I’m actually selling/raw materials, the products are as sustainable as possible. The wire used for the earrings is recycled sterling silver 925, then I make the hoops. The felt balls are made from wool, which is from a small farm that we have been buying from for years. Then everything is made and assembled by moi. Any extras like beads will be recycled from old jewellery so everything sold is as unique as it can be. Please ask for custom colours/if you would like a specific colour and you haven’t seen any photos with it on. The packaging is 100% recyclable and I’ve tried to make sure it doesn’t use plastic. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. In terms of pricing, the big ball earrings are £10 and the little three ball earrings are £12 (hopefully more designs will be coming soon). There are also a few older bracelets left for £8 😉
So there is my little venture and I hope you like the sound of Felt Fancy! Everything is put on Depop but message me on Instagram (also @feltfancy) or Depop for custom colours/combinations. And of course I had to write a blog post about it for some shameless self promo with a somewhat illusive title.
2020 is already bringing out the creativity I thought I’d lost which is just a very exciting prospect. If you buy anything, please share, I shall of course repost on Instagram/Twitter <3
lots of love, Eleanor xx
